Giant Watermelon are a true plant and there is a small art involved in reaping a GIANT if you require to show it. Firstly, like all watermelons, fertilise the bed extremely well,, cow manure is a favorite of mine and I normally prepare the bed 1 - 2 months prior to planting. However a good draining rich soil for home / domestic use will suffice if you remove new fruits from the vine as they appear and leave 1 or 2 to grow. Place the fruit at an early stage in a position that will not place starin on the stem. These fruits grow LARGE (in excess of 200lbs / 91 kilo each ) and there is a possibility that they can break away if they are not monitored. Giant Watermelon
Watermelons require loose soil and prefer soils rich in organic matter. A well-drained soil will help to avoid damaging water stagnation and promotes root development that will allow greater capillary action to provide nourishment to the plant. The space that is required for a giant watermelon plant is approximately 25sqm.
