Golden Midget Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus)
The warmer the weather is, the sweeter the watermelons will be. Warmth is required to change sugars in the melons. In cooler areas watermelons require a bright, warm growing season of about 3 months duration. The use of row covers such as black plastic weedmatting are highly recommended for extending the growing season in order to ensure maturity and to increase yield. Pick fruit when the underside goes yellow and they exhibit a hollow sound when rapped firmly with the nuckles of your hand.
